Addressing three urgent topics – a pandemic, the migratory flow around the globe and, as a result, the conflict between collective and individual rights – I bring to the present in images, text and action the story of my great-grandmother Carmen, who, in the beginning of the XX Century, embarked on an immigrant ship from Granada (Spain) to Brazil. For this video, I wrote the story of Carmen in pastel chalk on sheets of vegetal paper and afterwards released into the sea. The drawings, torn, crushed, wet and salted, were recollected and artistically recovered keeping the traces of the drowning process.

Christina Elias has exhibited in museums and galleries in Brazil and Europe. Master in Movement Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London) and Ph.D. in Design from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi (São Paulo). She is currently developing postdoctoral research at PUC-SP on the subject of art and feminism. She lived in Berlin, Lisbon, London, Rome and currently lives and works in São Paulo, her hometown. While in Europe, she practiced Buto and Aikido with Japanese and European masters. Her aesthetics and method in the visual arts are influenced by principles that guide these techniques. Member of the CEO Centro de Estudos Orientales - PUC/SP.
